APPLICATION STEP BY STEP GUIDE
WELCOME TO MADIBA BAY SCHOOL OF FLIGHT. Here you will see how to apply to become a student at our school. Please read through this process carefully. We look forward to welcoming you here soon.
STEP 1 - OBTAIN AN AVIATION MEDICAL CERTIFICATE
Every pilot will have to undergo a physical medical examination. This will prove that your physical and mental health is sufficient to operate an aircraft. We highly recommend, if you are going to study at Madiba Bay School of Flight and you are an international student, check that you will pass the required medical exam in South Africa.
It would be an unfortunate event if you arrived in South Africa and could not pass the medical examination to begin your studies.
Once you are confident you will pass the aviation medical exam. You will have to go to an Aviation Medical Examiner in South Africa to be able to apply for a student license with the South African Civil Aviation Authority.
STEP 2 - APPLY AND PROVIDE PROOF OF HEALTH INSURANCE (ONLY INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS)
Every international student will require health insurance. Students are welcome to gain this through local health insurance companies. Every student must ensure that this is valid for the duration of your visa and is renewable on an annual basis. This must be comprehensive cover.
We also have a health insurance company in South Africa that will cover you on an annual basis. The company is called Moment Health and they charge approximately R 5,000.00 annually. Most of our student choose this as their health cover. Please click on the below link to fill in this form.
Once complete please email the form directly to email@example.com. and please CC to this email. You will need a pre-acceptance letter to our school when you send this to Momentum Health.

STEP 3 - SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING
We will require the following documents and proof of payment. We require a deposit of R 5,000.00 for South African Students and a deposit of R 10,000.00 for International students. Should your application be unsuccessful the school will refund you your deposit minus the administration fee of R 950.00.
Each student is always required to maintain a minimum balance of R 5,000.00 in their school account . This is due to past students using school credit and then failing to pay the school fees incurred during their training. Once you have completed your course. You will have the option to use this towards your final exam or you may request a refund for the deposit.
- Proof of Health Insurance valid for at least one year. (International Students only)
- The Madiba Bay School of Flight Application form
- A copy of your I.D./Passport
- A proof of payment
- Proof of Accommodation. Kindly request us to assist you with finding suitable accommodation.
STEP 4 - APPLY FOR A VISA (ONLY INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS)
Once you have submitted all required documents in step 3, Madiba Bay School of Flight will send you a letter of acceptance.
You will need to complete the below application and send this with the required documents to a South African Embassy closest to you. Please note that this will take anywhere from 6 weeks to 12 weeks.
We cannot guarantee that this time frame will be accurate. Application process times do vary. Please follow the next step once you have your study visa in hand.
STEP 5 - GET READY TO BECOME A PILOT
We are just about ready to welcome you to Madiba Bay School of Flight.
We request the following before your arrival.
- R 550.00 for the SACAA Student Pilot Application
- R 520.00 Courier Fee
- 20% Deposit for PPL course
- 2 x Passport Photos (please bring these on the day of arrival)
We require all your arrival information at least 10 days before arrival. This will include the following.
- Date of arrival
- Mode of transport
- Flight Number if flying
- Time of Flight
- Accommodation Address
