Requirements for a Private Pilot Licence (Aeroplane)

(1)  An applicant for a Private Pilot Licence (Aeroplane) must –

 

(a)

be 17 years or older;

 

(b)

hold a valid Class 1 or Class 2 medical certificate (upon arrival in South Africa);

 

(c)

must be able to speak english to an acceptable level;

 

(2)  applicant for a Private Pilot Licence (Aeroplane) must have completed not less than 45 hours flight time as pilot of an aeroplane of which-

(a)

at least 25 hours are dual instruction in aeroplanes, which must include 5 hours instrument instruction time; and

(b)

at least 15 hours are accumulated in solo flight; and obtain a minimum pass mark of 75% in the following subjects- Airlaw, Meteorology, the Human Factor in Flight, Aircraft Technical, Principles of Flight, Flight Planning, Navigation, Radio (the subjects are challenging but anybody who applies themselves can pass them in 8 weeks)

 

(c)

a maximum of five hours dual instruction may be in an approved Flight Simulator.
