Madiba Bay school of flight

Our Airfield - Flying in PE

Port Elizabeth is without a doubt the finest location in  Africa for flight training. For that reason we have six excellent flight schools in the area. They are: 43 Air School,  Progress Flight  Academy  , Airline Pilot Training Centre, Algoa Flying Club, Sheltam Aviation and ourselves.

Those of you who like history would like to know that Port Elizabeth airfield was home to some 400 military aircraft during WW2. The South African Air Force Museum operates from here to this day. Modern day Port  Elizabeth  airport has exactly the right mix of scheduled and general aviation traffic. So, while our students become comfortable with flying in amongst the scheduled traffic from the start, the airspace is never so busy as to make them feel unwelcome.

The general flying area is large and close to the airfield and students get lots of practice fitting into the air traffic control system as they fly to and from it. Port Elizabeth Airport also boasts full instrument facilities and that combined with the un-crowded skies make it the ideal location for instrument training.

Our City - Port Elizabeth(PE)

 Map of SA showing PE

In 1820 an adventurous group of people came from  Great Britain to settle the South East corner of  Africa . Their leader, Sir Rufane Donkin, called the place  Port Elizabeth  after his wife.

Today the city is also called  Madiba Bay in honour of Nelson Mandela, one of  Africa ’s truly great sons, who was born nearby.

Port Elizabeth inherits Africa’s generally fine weather and adds excellent coastal visibility enabling us to fly almost every day. The coastline is particularly beautiful.  From the tourist’s point of view, Port  Elizabeth’s white sandy beaches combined with the warm waters of the  Indian Ocean make it an ideal holiday destination. It boasts a wonderful oceanarium and many wildlife parks including the World-renowned Shamwari Lodge and Addo Elephant Park. Port Elizabeth is a modern city that offers much of what any European city would have to offer. We know that your stay with us will leave you with great memories that you will treasure for a lifetime.
