Requirements for a Commercial Pilot Licence (Aeroplane)
(1) An applicant for a Commercial Pilot Licence (Aeroplane) must –
(a)
be 18 years or older;
(b)
hold a valid Class 1 medical certificate (upon arrival in South Africa)
(c)
be able to speak english upto a acceptable level;
(d)
have obtained a minimum pass mark of 75% in the following subjects: Airlaw, Meteorology, Aircraft Technical and General, the Human Factors in Flight, Flight Planning, Navigation, Radio Aids and Aircraft Instruments (the subjects are challenging but anyone who applies themselves can pass them in 3-4 months)
(2) An applicant for a Commercial Pilot Licence (Aeroplane) must have completed not less than –
(a)
200 hours of flight time, which may include 20 hours of flight instruction time in a flight simulation training device, approved for the purpose; or
(3) The total of 200 hours must include –
(a)
100 hours as pilot-in-command; and
(b)
50 hours of cross-country flight time as pilot-in-command; and
(c)
10 hours of night flying as pilot-in-command; and
(d)
40 hours of instrument instruction time, of which not more than 20 hours may have been acquired in a flight simulation training device.
Some of our students have obtained their Commertial License in 9 months, however some of them have taken as long as two years.
